We recently carried out a four barrier installation for a National company at their depot in Birmingham. They have many movements of heavy goods vehicles and have a fully manned security lodge on a central island with weighbridges on both the entry and exit lanes.

We installed four BFT Michelangelo 6 metre boom barriers with under-fences. Two barriers were installed the entry lanes and two more in the exit lanes. These barriers have an opening time of six seconds.

Due to the location of the weighbridges in the roadway safety induction loops in the ground were not practical . In order to overcome this problem we ensured vehicle safety by fitting multiple photo-cell beams. This means having several beams crossing the road at different heights. This is necessary to avoid any risk of the beams passing through gaps in the vehicles or under vehicle decks which might permit the barrier to inadvertently close onto a vehicle. If any of the photo-cell beams is obstructed it will either prevent the barrier from operating or it will cause it to reverse if it is already in motion.

Control is by bespoke push button stations located in the security lodge.
